David B. Pedersen Scholarship Contest
Cariloha in partnership with the David B. Pedersen Foundation is pleased to announce we will be holding a “David B. Pedersen National Scholarship Essay Contest”. The winner selected will receive a $1500 scholarship.
Cariloha is committed to serving our community. Whether it is through humanitarian aid or through our scholarship program, philanthropy is an extremely important part of our business philosophy.
About the David B. Pedersen Foundation
The David B. Pedersen Foundation began in 2005 and has since awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to more than 200 students. Cariloha Founder and CEO, Jeff Pedersen, his parents (Bob and Catherine Pedersen), and his seven siblings created and organized this foundation in honor of their youngest brother and son, David, who passed away in September 2005.
The foundation awards scholarships to outstanding students who have bounced back from life's obstacles and shown resilience and achievement in scholastics and being drug free.
The David B. Pedersen Foundation works closely with Utah's Granite School District and East High teacher, Leigh VandenAkker (Mrs. V), who spearheads the incredible growth and learning program, Techniques for Tough Times, from which several applying students are selected for scholarships.
From the Foundation's inception, it began raising funds organically through private donors and awarding scholarships primarily to students participating in Mrs. V's program. From 2009 to present, under Mrs. V and the Pedersen's direction, the David B. Pedersen Foundation has expanded its reach to other high schools and student bodies, where dozens of students receive the generous $500 and $1,000 scholarships every spring.
Cariloha will work directly with the David B. Pedersen foundation to provide one additional scholarship of $1500 to be offered to the student selected.
